Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Review: The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Toner

Updated: Jun 12, 2019

So because of the launch of the new cruelty-free page of Voice Your Values, we are also looking at doing cruelty-free makeup reviews.

For our first product review, I am reviewing my favourite toner: The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Toner.

I know it sounds like a mouthful, but it's well worth it. Toners are a very important part of our skincare routine. I sometimes wonder how much i personally overlook this step because it doesn't feel like anything! but of course, it all boils down to chemistry.

Toners primarily restore the pH balance of our skin after we cleanse. Additional benefits include being an added protective layer, and also helps in minimising our pores. In my search for the best toners, my most favourite is this holy grail product from The Body Shop.

I have been using this product for over a year and i can definitely say this is one of the best toners i've tried. I guess it's mostly because of the added benefits of it's star product: Tea Tree Oil. Per the label, they get the oil from Kenya. This ingredient is known for its antibacterial properties, usually to treat acne, and had also been topically used for infections.

The actual product itself is a light-green liquid and has a very distinct smell of tea tree. New users might find this overpowering but the smell does not linger. Keep in mind that some people may like it and some may not but the feel is generally refreshing. It has a slight tingly feeling upon application. The thing i like about this product in particular is a very interesting "shake to activate" feature.

They claim it is to activate the "mattifying powers". This product is being advertised to help with acne and i must say even if i don't particularly have an acne problem, i did notice that i suffered less breakouts, minimised pores.

As you can see from the photo below, there is a build-up at the bottom of the bottle. When you shake it, it mixes with the toner to give a bubbly, cloudy light-green liquid.

Product Description :

Our Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Toner helps skin looks visibly clearer and tone in one step. Enriched with Community Trade tea tree oil, with shake-to-activate mattifying powders, this toner leaves skin feeling clean, refreshed and visibly clearer. Use after cleansing to remove any residual traces of make-up and impurities, which can clog the pores.

Make sure to try a spot treatment as your skin might be sensitive to the product. But generally i have been very happy with this purchase. As you can see i have purchased a 400ML product. But if you want to try a smaller size, they come in 250ML as well. Check it out here:

IS THE BODY SHOP CRUELTY FREE?

Yes, i'm happy to announce that The Body SHop is, indeed Cruelty free. They have launched a campaign called Forever against animal testing where, not only do they make sure their products are cruelty free, but actively campaign to stop animal testing in cosmetics.

WHAT IS FOREVER AGAINST ANIMAL TESTING? Our Forever Against Animal Testing global campaign is how we put our passion for animal rights into action – we're working towards a worldwide ban on animal tested cosmetics… forever. Approximately 80% of countries have no laws around animal testing, which is why we haven’t stopped fighting for the rights of animals since 1989. Working with our customers and Cruelty Free International, our Forever Against Animal Testing campaign is helping wipe out animal testing in cosmetics for good, so animals no longer have to suffer for our beauty.

What do you think about their forever against animal testing campaign?
